Doctor Who

“Doctor Who has never pretended to be hard science fiction … At best Doctor Who is a fairytale, with fairytale logic about this wonderful man in this big blue box who at the beginning of every story lands somewhere where there is a problem.”

- Neil Gaiman

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.”

Amanda’s Kickstarter just got its 14,000th supporter at the exact same moment as the first song went out to supporters. She is very happy. (This is her I am very happy face.) Also I got dressed and went up to the hotel bar and got her champagne.

Having role modals is nice. Having role modals who are married to each other is even nicer.

To any of you lovely followers who ask me about stuff like this. Neil Gaiman is 90% of the reason I keep writing. Because sometimes, the only thing in my life I can control? Is how much I write each day.

And yes, this is the same man from the *keyboard smash* post. Seriously, if you never read…

I Can’t Decide Whose Acceptance Speech Was Better: Stan Lee’s or Neil Gaiman’s.

Stan Lee won biggest disappointment for not making a cameo in X-Men: First Class, and Neil Gaiman won the screenwriting excellence award for the Doctor’s wife. I think they both deserved it. Watching Neil run around in a field was pretty great, but so was the effulgence of my lord and master Mr. Lee. Thoughts?

It’s Golden Globes night so it’s time to bring this back :D. I can’t believe this was two years ago already, I can still remember the shit storm surrounding this like it was yesterday. It’s amazing how many people didn’t seem to realise that she was there as Neil’s date, they just thought that she turned up randomly to strip off (although that does sound like something she’d do really). Plus she did have a slip on under it for the bulk of the time she was there, the photographers just asked her to take it off again to take some photos.
Anyway, good times :D.

Ah, she’s so awesome. If I could be one thing, it wold be as free a bitch as Amanda Palmer. Or her girlfriend. God, that would never happen. Plus she’s married to a guy I also wouldn’t mind dating. Ummm… hey, Neil and Amanda? I have a cool idea?

How do you do it? You do it.

You write.

You finish what you write.

You look for publishers who publish “that kind of thing”, whatever it is. You send them what you’ve done (a letter asking if they’d like to see a whole manuscript or a few chapters and an outline will always be welcome. And stamped self-addressed envelopes help keep the wheels turning.)

Sooner or later, if you don’t give up and you have some measurable amount of ability or talent or luck, you get published. But for people who don’t know where to begin, let me offer a few suggestions:

Thanks for the reminder, Neil! The most important and easiest to forget tip for “how to be a writer” is “to write.”

The wonderful FourPlay String Quartet…

I lolled so hard at this.

“Neil and I are constantly trying to figure out what our marriage is. All we’ve figured out so far is that it is 100%, definitely, absoutely not fucking normal. That’s a nice start.”
